Abstract - The tectonic and sedimentary evolution of the Sarzedas region (Central Portugal), during Tertiary time consist of several stages. The first stage records the deposition on alluvial fans associated with NE-SW faults (Pyrenean Phase). During the second stage, the rejuvenation of a northeastern granitic source (Neocastillan Phase) brings about a outwash braidplain with a drainage towards SW. The last stages — during Late Miocene and Plio-Pleistocene — corresponds to the Cordilheira Central uplift, which originates piedmont deposits.
